FARMINGTON -- Six was the number for Notre Dame's soccer team Thursday.
Six players scored as the Bulldogs beat Farmington 6-1 and improved to 6-1-1 on the season.
Tommy Wencewicz, Ryan Fenwick, Jason Garner, Mark Behrle, Zach Miller and Cory Elfrink each scored.
Jonathan LeGrand and Miller each dished two assists and Fenwick and Garner added one each.
"Farmington is a new program," said Notre Dame coach Brad Wittenborn. "They play on a small, uneven field and that makes it hard to get any continuity."
Notre Dame's JV beat Farmington 5-2 to improve to 4-0-1. Chris Dirnberger, Luke Oliver, Michael Gosche, Eric Mayfield and Tim Robert scored for the Bulldogs.
Cape Central 2, Poplar Bluff 1
POPLAR BLUFF -- The Tigers jumped ahead 2-0 and held on Thursday to improve to 3-5-2.
Nathan Gibbar scored on a free kick from Pat Dunham in the first half and Luke Fuemmler scored early in the second half on a head ball off a throw in from Josh Ferguson to stake the Tigers to a two goal lead.
Bluff scored with about 12 minutes left.
Central lost the JV game 2-1, falling to 1-3 on the year. Tate Gerard scored for Central with an assist from Greg Bartosik.
Central travels to Parkway West Tuesday.
Jackson 3, Marion (Ill.) 1
JACKSON -- Jackson scored twice in the first 11 minutes on its way to victory.
The Indians improved to 4-3-2.
Spencer Knowlan scored in the 4th minute on a pass by Nathan Windekenecht, who scored seven minutes later on an assist by Knowlan.
Windekenecht scored again with 15 minutes remaining in the match on a pass by Zane McClard.
Jackson's JV won 1-0; Justin Green scored.
VOLLEYBALL
Notre Dame 15-15, Oran 3-9
ORAN -- Notre Dame improved to 6-1 by sweeping host Oran Thursday.
Jessica Hency had six kills and Bonnie Essner added five while Sara Westrich had 13 assists.
"We played excellent," said Notre Dame coach Janet Buchheit. "We came in ready to play. We had our heart and mind in the game."
Oran fell to 0-4.
Notre Dame won the JV match 15-12, 15-4.
Jackson 15-15, Woodland 1-7
JACKSON -- Jackson easily beat Woodland Thursday behind what coach Nancy Ellis said was probably her team's best performance of the season.
"We were aggressive and finally played to win and not to not lose," Ellis said.
For Jackson (8-2-2), Heather Brown tallied nine assists while Becky King had five kills and Valerie Jansen four. Chrissi Glastetter served five aces.
Woodland fell to 2-5. Toni Cowell had eight assists, B.J. Cameron totaled three kills and Dianna Lukefahr had two kills.
Jackson's JV (4-0) won 16-14, 11-15, 15-12, and its freshmen won 15-1, 15-13.
Jackson will start pool play today against Bell City in the SEMO Classic.
Leopold 15-15, Advance 1-13
LEOPOLD -- Leopold coach Leanne Huffman still has never lost as a high school volleyball coach.
Leopold moved to 7-0 with its win at home Thursday.
"So far, they're really meshing as a team," Huffman said.
Leopold's JV won 15-8, 17-19, 15-3.
Bell City 15-15, Richland 5-3
BELL CITY -- Bell City improved to 6-0 with an easy win Thursday.
Leslie Lee had 12 assists, Jessica Shelby and Courtney Brockmeyer each had four kills and Heather O'Reilly totaled 10 digs.
Bell City will open pool play in the SEMO Classic today against Jackson.
Oak Ridge 13-15-15
Chaffee 15-8-2
CHAFFEE -- Oak Ridge wore down Chaffee Thursday night to gain its first win of the season, improving to 1-5.
"The girls played so well," said Lady Blue Jay coach Michelle Grimpo. "It was so good to see them come together as a team and put it together."
Chaffee's JV won 15-11, 8-15, 15-12.
Festus 15-15, Perryville 8-4
FESTUS -- Perryville dropped to 3-5-1 with its road loss Thursday.
Renee Kaempfe had eight kills, Amy Verseman six kills and seven assists, Shannon Dreyer 10 assists and Jeni Blevins five digs.
Festus' JV won 15-7, 6-15, 15-9.
GIRLS TENNIS
Cape Central 7, Charleston 2
CHARLESTON -- Cape Central improved to 6-0 with a tough road win over Charleston Thursday.
"It was a hard-fought match; our best so far," said Central coach Annette Slattery. "While we won two out of three in doubles, the singles matches were all close, come-from-behind matches. I thought the girls showed a lot of heart."
The Lady Tigers play at Dexter Monday.

PERRYVILLE -- Jackson improved to 10-6 heading into its big tournament Saturday by beating host Perryville Thursday.
Beth Becker scattered nine hits to earn the victory. She struck out five and walked two.
Megan Kuntze led the offense with two triples and two RBIs. Amanda Bollinger and Jessica Sander also had two hits apiece.
Kelly 11, Ste. Genevieve 0
BENTON -- Kelly romped Ste. Genevieve in three and a half innings Thursday and moved to 7-2.
Kim Riley earned the win. She allowed four hits and struck out four.
Kelly totaled seven hits; Andee Heisserer had a hit and four RBIs and Riley had a triple and an RBI.
Kelly will participate in the Jackson Invitational Saturday.
FOOTBALL
Cape Central splits
ARNOLD -- Cape Central's ninth-grade team improved to 3-0 on the season with a 9-0 victory over Seckman.
Bryan Emmendorfer kicked a 32-yard field goal in the second quarter and Otis Turner added a 2-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
Matt Brandt helped preserve the shutout with a fourth-quarter interception in his own end zone.
Cape Central's eighth-grade team fell 48-0 to New Madrid.
