INDIANAPOLIS -- Jon Younghouse, a 1996 graduate of Cape Central High School, advanced out of the Olympic trial swimming preliminaries in the 400 freestyle Wednesday morning, but finished eighth in the finals Wednesday night.
Only the top two in each event go to the Olympics.
In the finals, Younghouse -- who just completed a brilliant four-year career at the University of Texas -- finished in 3:59.64, well behind winner Klete Keller who swam the event in 3:47.18, an American record.
Younghouse swam a 3:53.17 in the preliminaries.
Erin Vogt, also a former Cape Central swimmer, failed to advance out of the preliminaries in the 400 individual medley.
Vogt and Younghouse aren't through competing, however.
Younghouse will compete in the 200 freestyle today and possibly the 1,500 next Tuesday. Vogt will swim the 200 IM Friday and the 200 butterfly Saturday.
