Southeast Missouri State University volleyball players Lea Beckemeyer and Emily Scannell have been selected as Ohio Valley Conference player of the week and freshman of the week, respectively.
Beckemeyer, a senior outside hitter, led Southeast's attack last week as the Otahkians lost to undefeated Missouri but started OVC play with wins over Tennessee-Martin and Murray State. She had 18 kills and a .438 hitting percentage against Tennessee-Martin and 15 kills and a .522 hitting percentage against Murray State.
Scannell, the Otahkians' rookie setter, recorded 91 assists in the three matches, including 30 against Tennessee-Martin and 35 against Murray State.
The Otahkians have a key OVC match Wednesday when Eastern Illinois visits Houck Field House for a 7 p.m. start. The Panthers are also off to a 2-0 start in league play.
