NEW ORLEANS -- The Southeast Missouri State University golf team, led by a fourth-place finish by Jason Owen, placed eighth in the two-day New Orleans Collegiate Classic that concluded Thursday.
The University of New Orleans, the host school, won the 18-team event with a 594 total, seven strokes ahead of Jacksonville State.
Southeast totaled 623 to tie with St. Louis University and Murray State. Fourteen of the 18 teams, Southeast included, shot their lowest team total in Wednesday's opening round. The Indians stood in eighth place after shooting 304 on Wednesday and held the position with a 319 on Thursday.
Owen shot a 1-over-par 73 in the opening round at the Oak Harbor Golf Club and followed it up with a 75 to finish tied at 148 with two others. He finished just three strokes behind New Orleans' Casey Crain who shot 73-72--145.
Southeast's David Fulton was one stroke back and tied for seventh at 73-76--149. Southeast's other golfers and finishes: Bryan Johnson (81-82--163, T72nd), John Litzelfelner (77-86--163, T72nd) and Mark Horn (84-90--174, T92nd).
