SPRINGFIELD -- The Southeast Missouri State University golf team, paced by a second-place finish by Bryan Johnson, placed third in the 14-team Southwest Missouri State Spring Golf Classic held at the Millwood Golf and Racquet Club.
Southeast finished with a three-round total of 903 to place a distant third. Champion Arkansas State and host Southwest Missouri waged quite a battle for first, with the Indians posting an 874 total to win by a single stroke.
Johnson had rounds of 73-70-73 for a 216 total. Southwest Missouri's Jon Rogers led from start to finish as he posted a seven-shot victory. Rogers had rounds of 70-69-70--209 on the par-71 layout.
Southeast's Jason Owen placed 11th with a 73-72-77--222 total. Southeast's other scores: David Fulton 75-77-79--231 (23rd), Mark Horn 80-78-79--237 (38th) and John Litzelfelner 86-82-76--244 (54th).
