Shauna Birge, a senior member of the Southeast Missouri State University women's track team, was recently honored at the annual awards and achievement dinner for the George Washington Carver House in St. Louis.

Birge was honored as the winner of the Outstanding Youth award presented annually by Carver House.

A graduate of Webster Groves High School, Birge has been a top sprinter on the Southeast track team for the past three years. She has been a key performer on Southeast teams that have claimed six Ohio Valley Conference championships. At the 2000 OVC outdoor championships, Birge placed third in both the 100 and 200-meters and ran on the winning 400 relay team.

Birge, in the 2000 Carver House Souvenir Book, attributes her success to God, to her parents and to her track coach, Joey Haines.

Birge is majoring in criminal justice at Southeast.
