Scott City sophomore Braden Cox retired the final 14 batters he faced in Monday afternoon's Class 3 state semifinal.
Cox allowed a double that tied the game in the top of the third then did not allowed another hit in the Rams 4-1 victory over Warsaw.
Scott City took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Jordan Kluesner struck out on a wild pitch. The ball rolled into the expansive backstop area at T.R. Hughes Ballpark in O'Fallon, Missouri, allowing Trent Pobst, who had singled earlier in the inning, to score from second with two outs.
Warsaw ace Joey Cooner tied the game with a double in the fourth, but sophomore Dylan Keller gave Scott City the lead back with an RBI double in the fourth. The Rams added a run when Cox stole home in the fifth and another on Caden Hillemann's double in the sixth.
Scott City will face the winner of tonight's second semifinal between Fatima and Lutheran St. Charles for the state title at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
