Pingel's NCAA Division III Westminster Blue Jays lost the game, however, 51-35 to Kentucky Wesleyan, a Division II, non-scholarship school.

Pingel smashed Jerry Rice's all-time college receiving record for most catches in a career (301) in the season opener. He has since claimed the all-division records in career yards and touchdowns by a receiver. Pingel now has 353 receptions for 5,143 yards.
