Seven student-athletes at Southeast Missouri State University have been awarded 1996-97 Ohio Valley Conference Medals of Honor given annually to those who achieve the highest grade-point average in a conference sponsored sport. Seven student-athletes at Southeast Missouri State University have been awarded 1996-97 Ohio Valley Conference Medals of Honor given annually to those who achieve the highest grade-point average in a conference sponsored sport.

Southeast winners are Reggie Crisp, men's basketball; Christine Englehardt and Erin Frazier, softball; Heather Fisher and Rebecca Shull, women's track; and Mandy Edgington and Cathy Prichard, volleyball. All had a 4.0 grade-point average for the 1996-97 school year.

A total of 45 Southeast athletes were named to the 1996-97 OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll for having a 3.25 or better cumulative grade-point average.

The Southeast softball team led the way with eight: Englehardt, Frazier, Karen Matzenbacher, Karen Noel, Jennifer Oermann, Kim Palmer, Debbie Schmelz and Anne Wilson.

The volleyball team had seven winner: Edgington, Prichard, Angie Aschoff, Jackie Derwort, Nicole Gonzalez, Tuba Meto and Erin Willrich; while women's track/cross county had six: Fisher, Shull, Jennifer Anderson, Leslie McNamara, Janelle Quigley and Michelle Ramsey.

Other recipients are: Ryan Branstetter, Justin Buck, Lanson DeBrock, Jeremy Johnson and Jason Swearingen, baseball; Travis Blevins, Andy Brennecke, Greg Klund, Nick Reggio and Justin Terrill, football; Neil Birchler, Randy Johnson, Dan Nickels, Chris Prescott and Aaron Wade, men's track/cross country; Michelle Gruber, Izabela Slowikowska and Victoria Wood, tennis; Meghan Moran, Kim Palmer and Jamie Wahlert, women's basketball; Michael Brown, Jason Florek and Scott Roe, golf; and Crisp, men's basketball.
