Former Cape Girardeau Central High School baseball star Brandon West had the unusual distinction of winning both ends of a doubleheader Sunday.
Pitching for Southwest Missouri State, the junior righthander picked up both wins in relief as the Bears swept Illinois State 16-15 and 7-5.
West, who transferred to Southwest from Jefferson College in Hillsboro, has turned into one of the Bears' most dependable pitchers after not seeing much action early in the season.
West is 4-2, which ties him for the second-most wins on the squad. His 5.93 earned-run average ranks fourth on the team.
The Bears had a 24-17 record after sweeping a four-game series from Illinois State.
