Briefly: Chaffee football team stays undefeated

Chaffee's defense nearly pitched a shutout during a dominant performance as the Red Devils continued the program's best start since 1969.

The Red Devils routed host Portageville 38-7 Friday night, missing out on a whitewash when the Bulldogs scored a touchdown with just over two minutes left in the game.

Chaffee improved to 4-0, its best start since the 1969 squad began 6-0. Portageville fell to 1-3.

Jimmy Golden and Charlie Montgomery both rushed for two touchdowns while Peyton Montgomery ran for the other TD. Golden ran for 117 yards.

Chaffee outgained Portageville 354-90 in total yardage.
