PORTAGEVILLE -- Chaffee High's football team played a strong first half but host Portageville eventually took charge to claim a 36-6 SEMO South Conference victory Saturday night.

The Red Devils, who on Friday learned that they had received a season-opening forfeit victory over Malden for their first win since 1995, fell to 1-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

Portageville improved to 3-1 overall, 1-0 in the league.

Chaffee took a 6-0 lead after one quarter as Matt Graham hit Andy Proffer with a 20-yard touchdown pass.

The Bulldogs scored 13 second-period points to go ahead 13-6 at halftime. They then iced the game with 23 third-quarter points.

Gerald Pickering scored three touchdowns and rushed for 177 yards to lead the Bulldogs.

Chaffee will host Scott City Friday night.
