Cape Girardeau's Wood & Huston Bank Junior American Legion baseball team opened its season with a pair of blowouts over Poplar Bluff Saturday, 18-2 and 18-1.
Jay Pierce picked up the first-game win, going five innings. He allowed two hits and a walk while striking out nine.
Dusty Barrows had three hits while Pierce, Andrew Depeder, John Snider and Rob Carr had two hits each.
In the second game, Justin Welker got the win. Zac Fidler, Welker and Depeder each had three hits.
Cape hosts Dunklin County in a 6 p.m. doubleheader today.
