Former Kelly High School star runner Amy Arteme will compete tonight in the USA Track and Field Junior National Championships in Denton, Texas.
Arteme, who will be a sophomore at Southeast Missouri State University, will run the 5,000-meters in the prestigious meet for athletes 19 years old and under.
Arteme also qualified in the 10,000-meters but that event will not be held this year.
At Kelly, Arteme led the Lady Hawks to the state cross country title in 1997. She earned all-state honors in both cross country and track.
Arteme had a strong freshman season for Southeast, winning the 10,000-meters at the All Sport Invitational and placing well at the Ohio Valley Conference Championships.
