Johnson repeats as Cape Girardeau C.C. champion

Mark Johnson repeated as the men's champion at Cape Girardeau Country Club with a one-stroke victory over Jason Crowell.

Johnson fired a 71 on Sunday to overtake Crowell, who shot an even-par 70 on Saturday to take a three-stroke lead into the final round.

On Sunday, both Johnson and Crowell rolled in birdie putts on No. 18. After Crowell sank a 20-foot putt, Johnson answered with a 12-foot birdie to win the tournament.

Johnson finished with a 73-71--144 total while Crowell finished at 70-75-145. Placing third was Larry McKinney at 76-71--147.

Other flight winners: Pat Evans (AA); Bob Heddon (A), Jerry Van Oostrom (B); and Tom Phillips (C).
