Braves' starting lineup garners all-district honors

The entire Scott County Central starting lineup earned Class 1 all-district honors on the teams picked by a panel of Southeast Missouri sportswriters that was released today.

Braves starters Drew Thomas, Otto Porter and Bobby Hatchett were named to the first team, Desmin Williams was tabbed for the second team and Randy Timmons earned honorable mention.

The Braves crushed Newtown-Harris 98-63 to capture the Class 1 state title.

Central and Jackson both had three players named to the list, with the Tigers' Rickien Russell, Wendi Zickfield and Sadie Pittman picking up honors, while the Indians' Henrie Williams, Marcus Harris and Ashten Howard also made the Class 5 list.

Leopold senior Darren VanGennip, the leading scorer in the Southeast Missourian's coverage area, made the Class 1 first team. He averaged 29.7 points a game this season for the Wildcats.
