Stepping into the shoes of a legendary program with 18 state championship titles, head coach Tim Carlisle is ready to ignite a new era of Scott County Central boys basketball.
After a humbling 4-21 season last year, the Braves are eager to rediscover their winning ways with Carlisle’s philosophy centered on speed and tenacity, emphasizing a fast-paced, high-energy style that will test their opponents’ endurance. An emphasis on hustle and effort has ignited a spark within the team, fueling their determination to prove their worth. While they may not be the tallest or most physically imposing team, the Braves’ spirit is their most valuable asset, propelling them forward this season.
“We are looking to build from that down year,” Carlisle said. “They all have been working hard this season and although we are not very big, we are looking to get up and down the floor at a fast pace. The only thing we are trying to do is play hard for 32 minutes and see where things take us.”
Taking the reins for the Braves this season is a combination of returning players and talented newcomers, each eager to contribute to the team’s success. Senior trio Namarius Warren, Asher Britt, and Zavior Mize form the core of the Braves’ leadership, bringing a mix of experience and athleticism. Warren is a quick and agile guard, while Britt is a physical forward with a consistent shooting touch. Mize is a versatile guard who can both facilitate and score for the Braves.
Juniors Cortavian Banks and Courtney Sanders III are expected to play expanded roles this season. Both are expected to help with defense and rebounding.
Sophomores Jaden Arnold and Cameron Bean are also poised to make significant contributions.
Freshmen Ty Murray and Brandon Bean are also expected to gain valuable varsity experience this season.
SCC received the No. 7 seed and will open its second at the 68th Annual Oran Invitational Tournament against second-seeded Richland on Monday, November 27.
