SAN FRANCISCO -- San Francisco's Barry Bonds hit his 58th home run, but that was about the only mistake Colorado rookie Jason Jennings made as the Rockies knocked off the Giants 4-1.

Jennings (3-0) pitched seven innings of three-hit ball for his third straight victory.

Juan Uribe homered and drove in three runs. Jay Powell got three outs for his sixth save and Colorado salvaged a four-game split.

Kirk Rueter (12-11) lost his fourth straight decision, allowing four runs and nine hits in six innings.

Jennings, the Rockies' top pick in the 1999 amateur draft, pitched a five-hitter in his major league debut against the Mets, and he beat the Dodgers in his second start. He'll finally get a start at Coors Field later this week when San Francisco visits Denver.

CINCINNATI -- Calvin Pickering's pinch-hit RBI single in the eighth inning ended a streak of 31 2-3 innings without an earned run against Octavio Dotel (6-5).

Scott Sullivan (5-1) pitched two perfect innings for his second win in two days, and Danny Graves got three outs for his 24th save.

Houston lost for only the fourth time in its last 17 games.

METS 10, PHILLIES 7

PHILADELPHIA -- Philadelphia wasted a two-run ninth inning lead, making a bizarre pair of errors on a routine throw back to the mound that helped New York prevail.

After Jose Mesa (1-3) blew a save for the first time since May 28, pitcher Jose Santiago let catcher Todd Pratt's throw back to the mound bounce off his glove.

Shortstop Jimmy Rollins picked up the ball and threw to third in an attempt to stop Todd Zeile from advancing, but it went wide as Zeile scored for an 8-7 lead.

Philadelphia has lost 13 of 18 and dropped two games back of Atlanta in the NL East. New York has won eight of its last 11.

C.J. Nitkowski (1-0), acquired Sunday from Detroit, pitched a scoreless eighth and Armando Benitez finished for his 35th save.

BREWERS 12-2 PIRATES 7-3

PITTSBURGH -- Craig Wilson hit his club-record sixth pinch-hit homer of the season with two outs in the ninth inning of the nightcap as Pittsburgh beat Milwaukee to salvage a split.

In the first game, Tyler Houston's two-run single keyed a five-run first inning and the Brewers held on for their first victory at PNC Park.

Wilson's drive was his 10th homer as a rookie and came off Chris Fox (3-2), who had easily gotten the first two batters in the ninth.
