SAN FRANCISCO -- Barry Bonds received his 45th intentional walk on Saturday, tying Willie McCovey for the majors' single-season record.
The Pittsburgh Pirates walked the San Francisco star with Jeff Kent on second base in the fifth inning of a 3-3 game.
Bonds, who hit his 600th homer against Pittsburgh on Friday night, also drew an intentional walk in the fourth inning, though only the fourth pitch was purposely wide.
McCovey got 45 walks in 1969 while with the Giants.
Bonds has 33 homers and 73 RBIs this season despite 129 walks from wary pitchers and managers. Last season, Bonds was walked 177 times, breaking Babe Ruth's 1923 record of 170 walks.
