Blues hand Wild first loss in OT

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Keith Tkachuk scored 46 seconds into overtime as the St. Louis Blues handed the Minnesota Wild their first loss of the season, 3-2 on Friday night.

Doug Weight, who scored St. Louis' first two goals of the game, set up Tkachuk's game-winner.

The captain carried the puck across the blue line and fed Tkachuk in the left circle. Tkachuk crossed to the front of the net and flipped a backhand off the left pad and glove of Minnesota goaltender Manny Fernandez. The puck barely trickled in.

Sergei Zholtok had a goal and an assist for the Wild, who were the only NHL team without a regulation or overtime loss coming into the game.

Weight had his first two-goal game as a member of the Blues, but his elbowing penalty at 10:33 of the third gave the Wild a power-play opportunity that resulted in the game-tying goal by Aaron Gavey. Minnesota's power play, the worst in the NHL last year, ranks second this season and converted two of seven opportunities Friday.

Weight gave the Blues a 2-1 lead at 1:12 of the third period. He crossed the Minnesota blue line and fired a wrist shot that squirted through Fernandez's pads as he went to his knees to stop the shot.

The Blues controlled play throughout the first period, outshooting the Wild 13-4 and taking a 1-0 lead on Weight's power-play goal at 14:24.

Minnesota struggled to apply offensive pressure until late in the second period, when a two-man advantage allowed Zholtok to have a clean look at the net from the left circle. Zholtok's slap shot beat Fred Brathwaite to the stick side.
