The Bloomfield Wildcats baseball team won in dramatic walk-off fashion, thanks to a walk-off at the end of the game to topple Puxico. The game was tied at one with the Wildcats batting in the bottom of the seventh when Christian Hartlein hit a one out sacrifice fly to left to score the tagging Carter Edwards from third.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Ben Stevens struck out seven for Bloomfield, while Puxico pitchers sat down eight.
“Ben Stevens was incredible today. The best game I’ve ever seen him pitch, and he pitched some good games last fall. Anytime a kid can throw a complete game with pitch counts, it really is special. I think he only threw 89 pitches in 7 innings.”
Stevens earned the victory on the mound for Bloomfield. The lefty hurler lasted seven innings, allowing three hits and one run while striking out seven.
Thomas Burch took the loss for Puxico. Burch allowed one hit and one run over one and two-thirds innings, walking one.
Cole Barnfield started the game for Puxico. The hurler allowed one hit and one run over four and two-thirds innings, striking out eight.
“The Barnfield kid pitched a heck of a game for them. He kept us off balance and hit his spots with his fastballs all day. We definitely have some things to work on at the plate, but a win is a win. I’m proud of how my boys responded today. There was some pressure spots in this game and they never got tight out there and kept making plays on defense. They’ve shown some real growth in that area since Fall and it makes me proud of how they have matured and worked to get to this point.”
Carter Edwards and Caleb Upchurch each collected one hit to lead Bloomfield Wildcats Varsity.
