Rubio was selected in the seventh round of this year's draft by Pittsburgh and he spent several weeks in the Steelers' training camp before being picked up by the 49ers.

Rubio filled a roster opening with the Bengals that became available when defensive back Corey Sawyer was placed on injured reserve Wednesday, one day after having knee surgery.

The Bengals, 1-2, play at Baltimore Sunday night on ESPN.
