Derek Pobst scored his only point of the game on a free with 7.2 seconds remaining to lift Bell City to a thrilling 57-56 victory over visiting Jackson in boys basketball action Tuesday night.

Bell City, ranked third in the state in Class 1, improved to 10-2 and avenged a loss to the Indians in the quarterfinals of the Southeast Missourian Christmas Tournament.

Jackson, which this week broke into the Class 5 rankings at No. 4, fell to 11-2 as it had an 11-game winning streak snapped.

Dominitrix Johnson led the Cubs with 29 points, including 16 of Bell City's 17 fourth-quarter points.

"Dom just took over," Bell City coach David Heeb said.

The Indians got 20 points from Tyler McNeely and 17 from Jack Puisis.

With 50 seconds left in the game, Puisis hit a layup to tie the contest at 56-56. Pobst was fouled while shooting with 7.2 seconds remaining and made one of two. Jackson missed two shots in the final moments as the Cubs prevailed.

"Derek Pobst was the star of the game," Heeb said. "He played great defense on their guards."
