ESSEX -- Two familiar foes will square off tonight for the championship of the Class 1A, District 2 volleyball tournament.
Defending 1A state champion Bell City and fellow Stoddard County Conference member Advance will meet at 6:30 p.m. for the right to compete in Saturday's sectionals.
In semifinal action Monday, top-seeded Bell City (28-1-1) defeated past No. 4 and host Richland 15-6, 15-8 while No. 3 Advance downed No. 2 Gideon 15-8, 15-3.
Earlier Monday, in opening-round action, Advance rolled past No. 6 Risco 15-7, 15-3 and Richland routed No. 5 Oran 15-1, 15-2.
JV FOOTBALL
Jackson 20, Cape Central 6
Jackson's JV wrapped up a 6-1 season by beating Cape Central Monday.
The JV Indians, whose only loss was 6-0 against Poplar Bluff, got a five-yard touchdown run from Jason Schuler, a one-yard touchdown run from Brian Beltz and a fumble recovery in the end zone by Adam Wachter. Schuler also had a two-point conversion run.
Central's lone TD came on a 50-yard pass from Bryan McDowell to Ross Conner.
Chaffee 24, East Prairie 0
EAST PRAIRIE -- Chaffee's JV ended its season by winning its first game here Monday.
G.P. Glueck scored two touchdowns to lead Chaffee (1-4-1). Tommy Stidham had the other TD. Travis Hanback threw a pair of two-point conversion passes to Billy Van Pelt and John Dooley while Shawn Powderly ran in a conversion.
