Don’t sleep on the cats... The Dexter Bearcat boys’ and girls’ track teams have won three consecutive SEMO South conference championships.
In program history, the Bearcat boys track teams have never won a district championship until last year. Now, the Bearcat boys are back-to-back, Class 3, District 1 champions.
On May 11, the Bearcats boys’ 4 x 100 meter and 4 x 400 meter relay teams set new school records while competing in the MSHSAA Class 3, sectional track meet held at Central High School in Park Hills.
The 4 x 100 relay team of Lee-Michael McDonald, RJ Farmer, Devin Turnbo and Langston Warnock placed second and set a new school record with a time of 43.23.
The 4 x 400 meter relay team of Cameron Bell, Chase Farmer, Aniston Kyle and Jason King placed first and set a new school record of 5:25.11.
The 4 x 800 meter relay team of Ben Dowdy, C. Farmer, Bell and Kyle placed second with a time of 8:18.21.
In the 800 meter run, Kyle finished second (2:03.32), C. Farmer finished third (2:05.22), and Bell finished fourth (2:05.82).
Dowdy placed fourth in the 3200 meter run with a time of 10:42.19.
In the 1600 meter run, Bell placed third with a time of 4:41.65 and King placed fourth with a time of 4:42.28.
Christian Wirz finished second in pole vault. Eli Scott finished third with jumps over 12 feet in pole vault.
Abbie Lloyd placed third in pole vault with a jump 10 foot.
Klaire Essner jumped her personal best 5.00.25 and finished third in the high jump.
DHS will have 11 athletes compete in the 97th boys track and field championships and two DHS athletes will compete in the 49th girls track and field championships held May 17-18, at Jefferson City High School’s Adkins Stadium.
