Down by a run with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the last inning, Notre Dame's Scott Reinagel had a two-RBI single that beat visiting Chaffee 3-2 on Wednesday.

"It was good to finally see someone get a big hit," said Notre Dame coach Gregg Muench.

Down 2-1 after Chaffee's Tommy Stidham had a two-RBI single in the fifth inning, with one out in the bottom of the seventh Notre Dame's Wes Steele hit a single. John O'Rourke reached on an error and Josh Eftink received an intentional pass to load the bases.

After losing pitcher Josh Hanlon recorded his eighth strikeout of the game, Reinagel struck with the game-winning hit.

Steele and Reinagel each had two hits and Eftink had a double and drew three walks.

Keith Hamm went the distance and earned the win. He allowed three hits and struck out five.

Scott City 7, Oak Ridge 2

SCOTT CITY -- Tim Lowery was 3-for-3 with a solo home run Wednesday as the Rams improved to 2-0.

Lance Amick added two hits for Scott City, which out-hit the Blue Jays 8-4. Brandon Amick pitched the first six innings for the win, striking out seven and allowing no earned runs.

Scott City broke open a 2-2 tie, with a five-run sixth inning. Brian Glueck pitched six solid innings for Oak Ridge.

Scott City plays host to Egyptian (Ill.) on Friday.

Fredericktown 10, St. Vincent 1

FREDERICKTOWN -- St. Vincent dropped its first game of the season Wednesday, getting only three hits in a nine-run loss.

Dusty Wengert singled and scored in the first inning for the Indians only run. Fredericktown countered with six runs in the second and three in the third to put the game away.

St. Vincent (3-1) hosts De Soto in a Jefferson County Conference game today.

Oran 5, Hayti 2

ORAN -- Billy Loper hit a three-run home run in the third inning in Oran's win over Hayti on Wednesday. Oran moved to 4-0.

Justin McAlister went 2-for-3 with a double and Loper was 2-for-4.

Dustin Glastetter earned the win. He went 5 1/3 innings, allowing three hits and striking out four.

Cape Central 9, Charleston 0

Cape Central improved to 3-0 with Tuesday's blanking of Charleston.

Central's JV also rolled past the Blue Jays, winning all 13 of the junior varsity matches.

Central goes to Carbondale (Ill.) today.

SOFTBALL

Chaffee 3, Notre Dame 1

Chaffee scored its three runs on just two hits, while pitcher Jamie Duncan held Notre Dame to one hit in the Lady Red Devils' win on Wednesday.

"It was a pitchers' duel," said Chaffee coach Mark Devenport. Chaffee improved to 2-0, dropping Notre Dame to 1-2.

Duncan pitched a complete game. She struck out five and walked none. Notre Dame's Jill Huber took the loss.

Chaffee's Brandi Foulk had an RBI single in the first inning and Jody Pfefferkorn had an RBI sacrifice fly in the first and an RBI single in the sixth.

Scott City 16, Oak Ridge 6

SCOTT CITY -- The Lady Rams improved to 2-0 Wednesday with a mercy-rule victory over Oak Ridge.

Scott City totaled 12 hits, led by two each from Amy O'Brien, Tricia Clubb and Kristin Burton. O'Brien also pitched the first four innings for the win, striking out seven. Burton had a triple and three RBIs and Jessica Dees also drove in three runs.

The Lady Rams host Egyptian (Ill.) Friday
