CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -- Austin Peay football coach Carroll McCray suddenly announced his resignation on Monday, saying it was based on a family decision to relocate.
His departure comes as the Governors prepare to return to scholarship football this year in the Ohio Valley Conference after five seasons as a non-scholarship program in the independent Pioneer Football League.
"This move was a family decision which will allow us to move closer to our immediate families in the Carolinas," he said in a statement released by the university. He also thanked his staff and supporters at the university. There was no mention of future employment.
McCray finished his fourth season as head coach of the Division I-AA team with a 3-8 record and 11-33 overall.
The search for a replacement will begin immediately.
