Season Report: If Wengert continues on his current pace, he will put up some incredible numbers. So far, the leadoff hitter is batting .667 (14-for-21) with 11 runs batted in, two doubles, four triples and a homer. Half of his hits have gone for extra bases and he has led St. Vincent to a 4-1 record so far this year.
Coach's comments: "He's very knowledgeable of the game and he works very hard on his hitting. He's very consistent. He drives the ball very well. Most of his hits have been in the gap. He's a very good athlete; he was a very good basketball player and a kicker on the football team. He can pretty well play anywhere -- second, short, third and anywhere in the outfield. That's one of his strengths; he's very versatile. For us, he'll probably just pitch and play shortstop."
