Amber Voerg
School: Cape Central
Sport: Soccer
Coach: Tom Doyle
Week Report: Voerg, the Athlete of the Week just two weeks ago, went on a goal-scoring binge last week, scoring nine goals in four games. It started when Voerg scored a goal and had an assist against city rival Notre Dame on Tuesday. On Thursday, Voerg went for four goals against Marion, Ill. On Friday, she lit up Racine, Ill. for a hat trick then finished up with a goal against Perryville in a semifinal game of the Fralish Cup, where Central took second.
Season Report: Voerg, a junior center halfback, was a first-team all-stater last year and an honorable mention all-state performer her freshman year. She was the leading scorer from last year's team which went to the state final four. With 18 goals this season, Voerg is quickly approaching a school record for goals in a season, 26, which she set last season. Voerg is already the all-time leading goal scorer at Cape Central. She currently has 70 career goals.
Coach's Comments: "Against the Racine team, she had three goals in less than 20 minutes and they were a decent team. In the previous game, against Marion, she had four goals in about 20 minutes as well. She's just assertive and she's got a whale of a shot. Some of those goals were from about 30-35 yards. The goalies could see them but there was nothing they could do about it. She's got a strong foot and a strong leg."
