Chris Bradshaw
School: Cape Central
Class: Senior
Sport: Baseball
Position: Third Base-Catcher
Coach: Steve Williams
Week report: In the clutch, Bradshaw was automatic as Cape Central completed a 4-0 week on the diamond to move into the seventh slot in this week's state coaches poll in Class 4A. Bradshaw batted .500 (6-for 12) with nine RBIs. In Friday's 9-7 win at North County, the top-ranked team in Class 3A, Bradshaw popped a three-run home run in the eighth inning which proved to be the winning runs. The next day in a 7-6 win over Horn Lake (Miss.), he lofted a game-winning sacrifice fly to the fence that snapped a 6-6 tie. Bradshaw also ripped two hits and two RBIs in Wednesday's 8-2 win at Poplar Bluff.
On the season: Since moving into the Tigers' clean-up spot, Bradshaw's been doing just that in his third season as a starter at Central. Bradshaw ranks in the top five on the Tigers with a .432 batting average, two home runs and 16 RBIs. He's also one of the Tigers' captains.
Coach's comments: "Chris has been one of our hardest workers and it's paying of this season. He was disappointed in his performance last year and wanted to make up for it; he's doing that now. He's been moved all over the field defensively and has done a solid job everywhere we've put him."
Amber Voerg
School: Cape Central
Class: Sophomore
Sport: Soccer
Position: Halfback
Coach: Tom Doyle
Week report: Voerg recorded her second hat trick of the season, with three goals in Thursday's 5-0 win over Marion, Ill. She added two more goals Friday in a 4-0 victory over Jackson. Voerg started the week with an assist in last Tuesday's 5-0 win over Perryville. Central completed the week with a 9-0-1 record.
On the season: In just her first season of varsity soccer, Voerg has scored 14 of the Lady Tigers' 40 goals this season to lead the team, adding two assists. Her goal total might even be higher, except for the fact Doyle takes her out of the game if she scores three goals in a game.
Coach's comments: "Amber has been our offensive leader so far. She's very skilled and she works hard. So far, no one has really been able to stop her. She's very coachable, easy to work with and enjoys the game."
