JONESBORO, Ark. -- Southeast Missouri State University's baseball Indians had their five-game winning streak snapped Tuesday night when Arkansas State rallied for three runs in the eighth inning to claim a dramatic 5-4 victory.

The Indians fell to 20-13 with the non-conference road loss while ASU improved to 19-13.

"It's disappointing for our winning streak to end that way, but it was an excellent game and I feel really good about our team," said Southeast coach Mark Hogan.

With Southeast leading 4-2, Jason Swearingen retired the first two batters in the bottom of the eighth. But Michael Clay hit a solo home run, then Beau Reed singled and Scott Carlson belted a two-run blast.

Lanson DeBrock started for the Indians and pitched four scoreless innings before running into trouble in the fifth. He wound up allowing four hits and two runs in 4 2/3 innings.

Ryan Spille then hurled 2 1/3 scoreless and hitless innings before Swearingen came on in the eighth and suffered the loss to fall to 6-3.

Both teams had eight hits. Southeast, which led 4-0 entering the bottom of the fifth, got three hits from Kyle Yount and two from Marty Lane.

Southeast sophomore center fielder Jeremy Johnson did not start because of a hamstring problem, but he did pinch-hit in the ninth. Johnson, who had started the first 89 games of his college career, kept a 90-game playing streak going.

The Indians will return to action this weekend when they play a three-game series at nationally-ranked Georgia Tech. The squads will have a single contest Friday night and a doubleheader Saturday afternoon.
