A few area football teams will complete their seasons tonight knowing they have no chance to come away with district titles.
In fact, of the five area games being played tonight, only the Valle-Hayti game at Hayti has a slight chance of factoring into the district race.
Besides the two games below, Caruthersville hosts Kennett a night before the end of the regular season.
Potosi (3-6) at Perryville (3-6)
Both teams are out of district contention, with North County and Farmington battling for the 4A, District 1 crown in Bonne Terre tonight.
Perryville halfback Ben Kohm reached the 1,000-yard mark last week in a 28-14 loss to Farmington. Kohm, with 1,088 yards, became the fifth area rusher to reach 1,000 yards.
Potosi has struggled for most of the season, allowing Fredericktown its only victory so far this season. Perryville beat the Black Cats 28-13 to open the season.
Last year Potosi beat Perryville 21-0.
Fredericktown (1-8) at Park Hills (0-9)
Park Hills will be fighting to stay out of last place in the Mineral Area Athletic Association and looking for its first win of 1997.
Fredericktown will trying to avoid the embarrassment of falling to the winless Rebels.
Three weeks ago, Park Hills nearly upset state-ranked Valle of Ste. Genevieve before a late rally by the Warriors. Fredericktown has played competitive in two district losses to Charleston and Ste. Genevieve.
Black Cat running back Jeremy Penwell will be looking to become the sixth area runner to pass the 1,000-yard mark. With 923 yards entering tonight contest with the lowly Rebels, Penwell should get reach the mark.
Last year Park Hills beat Fredericktown 18-7.
