Procter & Gamble team leads Corporate Games
Procter & Gamble's Orange team extended its lead in the Corporate Games on Tuesday following the darts and volleyball competition.
P&G Orange saw its 20-point lead on the City of Cape Girardeau grow to 70 points.
P&G Orange sat atop Division 1 (larger companies) with a score of 200 in the Olympic-style competition sponsored by the Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department. Following the City of Cape Girardeau's 130 was P&G Red with 120, Southeast Missourian/Concord Printing Fit to Print with 110, Delta Road Warriors with 90 and Southeast Hospital Super Stars with 70.
MedAssets led Division 2 with 170 points, with Yellow Book 10 points back and Big River Telephone 20 off the pace. Extra Hands had 100 points, Montgomery Bank had 90 and DYS had 30.
The teams competed in softball on Wednesday night.
Today's competition is 3-on-3 basketball at the Osage Community Center and golf at the Cape Jaycee Municipal Golf Course. The golf event was rescheduled from Monday.
The Boerbooms had a big day Sunday at the Punt, Pass and Kick competition presented by the Cape Girardeau Jaycees.
Sarah Boerboom won the 8- and 9-year-old girls division, Jacob Boerboom won the 10 and 11 boys division, and Zach Boerboom won the 14 and 15 boys division.
Those three competitors will join Brennan Redinger and Christian Cavaness, who had the day's top score, in the sectional event on Oct. 8 at Central Junior High in Cape Girardeau.
Punt, Pass and Kick measures participants distances and accuracy in each of the three elements. The scores are added together to determine the winners.
Sectional winners will enter a pool for consideration to compete in the St. Louis Rams Team Championship later this year before a game at the Edward Jones Dome.
Sarah Boerboom, the lone 8-9 girl, posted a score of 78-8.
Brennan Redinger scored a 150-1 to lead the 8-9 boys. Skylar Pease was second at 144-7 and Trent Leimer placed third at 73-5.
Jacob Boerboom won 10-11 boys with 218-8 mark. Braden Wendel was second with a 194-1, and Braxton McDowell was third with a 187-6.
In the 12-13 boys, Cavaness scored a 276-6. Kody Lorenz was second at 255-1, and Kyle Thompson placed third at 217-5.
Zach Boerboom won the 14-15 boys with a 247-3.
The Saint Francis Medical Center's third Coaches Clinic on Sept. 13 attracted more than 85 area coaches, athletic directors and trainers.
A scholarship for five athletes to enroll in the Frappier Acceleration training program was won by Bloomfield High School baseball and basketball coach Ryan Garnett.
Randy Robertson of Benton, Mo., had the best local finish among drivers at the Sikeston Drag Strip last weekend.
Robertson finished second in the pro class, with an elapsed time of 7.123 seconds and an average speed of 95.58 mph.
