Junior high footballpractices next week

Central Junior High athletic director Terry Kitchen said the practices for the eighth-grade football team will begin after the first day of school next Thursday.

Kitchen said the practices will begin at 3 p.m.

Players are required to have a physical and proof of insurance.

Perryville alumni gameset for next week

Perryville High School's third annual Alumni Recognition football game will be played 7 p.m. Aug. 17 at the high school football field.

The current team's Green & White scrimmage will follow.

Alumni teams will be divided based on years of graduation, and the game will feature a noncontact format in an abbreviated time frame. Participants will be introduced and presented with game shirts prior to the contest.

Stoverink, Hillis top25-team tourney field

Cori Stoverink and James Hillis placed first among 25 teams Sunday in the Southeast Missouri Horseshoe Association competition at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Leopold.

Tyler Elfrink and Carolyn Schreckenberg placed second, while the team of Cindy Arnzen and Mike DeVault was third.

On Saturday at the competition at the Oran Jaycees, Lachelle Cook and Lester Powell placed first.

Thirteen teams participated.

Bob Burnett and Amy Popst teamed up for a seocond-place finish, while Joe Bean and Blake Burger took third.
