Jackson Jr. Legion sweeps Dunklin Co.

JACKSON, Mo. -- The Jackson Junior Legion posted a pair of run-rule victories Tuesday night over Dunklin County.

Jackson (15-13) won the opener 16-0 in five innings and claimed the second game 15-5 on a sixth-inning walk-off grand slam by Kyle McMinn.

Tyler Beussink pitched the shutout in the opener, allowing five hits. Tony Longman went 3-for-4 with four RBIs to lead Jackson's nine-hit attack. Luke McClellan and Dane Balsmann both added a pair of hits.

Ryan Watkins picked up the win in the second game. McMinn went 4-for-4 with five RBIs as Jackson had nine hits overall.

MONDAY: Jackson lost both ends of a doubleheader at Sikeston.

In the opener, a 5-2 loss, Jackson was held to two hits. Tony Longman took the loss in six innings and gave up six hits and five runs, two of them earned.

In the second game, Sikeston won 6-4 and again limited Jackson to two hits. Brandon Stearns took the loss, giving up nine hits and four runs in four innings.

Cape Junior Legion wins twice against PB

The Cape Girardeau Junior Legion is 27-13 after defeating Poplar Bluff twice Tuesday at Capaha Park.

Cape won the first game 22-1 in five innings. Mitch Craft and Patrick Slattery were each 3-for-4 with a double. Ty Craft, Lee Essner, Steve Miinch, and Blake Urhahn all had two hits. Miinch and Urhahn had triples. Urhahn (5-2) struck out nine and allowed just two hits.

Cape won the second game 15-3 in five innings. Sean Bard and Blake Essner combined for a cycle when Bard hit a home run and double and Essner had a single and triple. Mitch Craft was 4-for-4 and Slattery was 3-for-4. Bard allowed three runs on three hits while striking out seven.
