SEMO Magic beats Ohio team in tourney

The SEMO Magic, a local 16-under girls fast-pitch softball team, defeated the Ohio Heat 4-2 Monday as pool play concluded in the NSA Class B World Series in East Peoria, Ill.

Kristain Burger pitched all seven innings for the win, allowing six hits.

The Magic had seven hits, led by Miranda Schlosser with two. She also drove in two runs. Burger tripled and drove in a run while Cortney Ostendorf had the other RBI.

The Magic went 1-1 in pool play. They begin double-elimination play in the 48-team event today.

Spike Squad wins Sand Blast volleyball

The Spike Squad captured the Sand Blast volleyball tournament sponsord by the Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department on Sunday.

Members of the team were Rhonda and Dewayne McClanahan, Jared Goodson, Ben Turner and Cory Daniel.

Johnson sinks ace at Kimbeland

Jim Johnson of Perryville carded his second career hole in one Friday during the Cape Eagles tournament at Kimbeland Country Club.

Johnson fired the ace with an 8-iron on hole A, which was playing 146 yards. Witnesses were Tom Kutz, Toby Moody and Rich Fuytinck.
