Scott County to open vs. Festus in zone

Scott County American Legion Post 369 will face defending state champion Festus in the opening round of the Zone 4 tournament at 5 p.m. Thursday at the Ellisville Athletic Complex.

The five-team zone will open with two games Thursday, including host Eureka vs. District 11-12 champion Anheuser-Busch. Ballwin receives a bye and will play the winner of Eureka and Anheuser-Busch on Friday.

The championship is set for 6 p.m. on Saturday, with a 10 a.m. if-necessary game on Sunday.

Scott County reached the zone by beating Dunklin County 7-6 in the District 14 championship.

In last year's Zone 4 tournament in Jackson, Festus defeated Anheuser-Busch for the title.

Hency places fourth at Gateway Junior event

Jesse Hency of Cape Girardeau had the top finish among area golfers at the two-day Gateway Junior PGA 9 Hole Championship that concluded Tuesday at the Ballwin Golf Course.

Hency finished fourth in the boys 12- to 13-year-old division with a two-day total of 82, six strokes off the top finisher. Hency's second-round score of 39 tied for the second-best round of the day.

Drew Hosp of Jackson finished three strokes behind Hency with an 85, and Corey Connell of Cape came in with a 98.

In the boys 10- to 11-year-old division, Luke Kinder of Cape shot a 136.

The championship for 18-hole competition will begin Monday at Crystal Springs Quarry.
