Capahas addgames for Sunday
The Plaza Tire Capahas have added two more games to their schedule as they will host the St. Louis Kings Sunday in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
"I've heard the Kings (15-8) are a very good team, so it should be two good games for us before we go out to Wichita," Plaza Tire manager Jess Bolen said.
The Capahas (27-5) have been notified that they will open play in the National Baseball Congress World Series in Wichita, Kan., on Aug. 2 at 7:30 p.m. against an opponent that has not yet been determined.
The NBC World Series begins Sunday and runs through Aug. 12.
Conceicao scores four points in Pan Am final
Former Southeast Missouri State women's basketball standout Tatiana Conceicao scored four points Tuesday as Brazil lost to the United States 79-66 in the gold medal contest at the Pan American Games in Brazil.
Conceicao played at Southeast during the 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons, leading the Redhawks in scoring both years.
Score of 59 wins RSVP golf tournament
The team of Pete Dooley, Jimmy Gloth, Jim Talley and Neal Glass shot a 59 to win Friday's ninth annual Retired Senior Volunteer Program golf tournament at the Cape Jaycee Municipal Course.
Deanna Peterman, Robin Turner, Sam Peterman and Sissy Burnett were second in Flight A with a 61.
Frank Essner, Gerrett Essner, Kimberly Adelson and David Bean won Flight B with a 65.
Special winners were Jeff Shively (longest putt), Scot LeGrand (longest drive), Steve Seyer (closest to the pin) and Kirk Buxton (closest to the line).
Local baseball team wins state title
The Cape Girardeau 10-year-olds went undefeated to win the state tournament in Washington, Mo., sending it to the regional in Scottsbluff, Neb., beginning today.
