SEMO Gators win title in Mississippi

The SEMO Gators 10-and-under baseball team won the championship of the June Jam Tournament in Southaven, Miss., improving its record in USSSA play to 21-2 this season. The Gators are ranked No. 1 among 20 Missouri teams playing at the AAA level and are eighth in the national rankings. They have won five tournaments and placed second in the other event they entered.

Members of the team are Steven Eddy, Josh Haggerty, Ross James, Carson King, Braxton McDowell, Cody Payne, Trevor Propst, Griffin Siebert, Logan Sprandel, Dalton Welch and Matt Westrich.

The team plays in the Missouri state tournament later this month and will play in the USSSA 10-and-under AAA World Series in July.

Jaycee golf course hosted scramble

The team of Jeff Connell, Jay Connell, Mitch Jackson and Dave Howard won the championship flight at the Cape Jaycee Municipal Golf Course's 14th annual four-person scramble Saturday with a score of 55.

Smith wins event on Gateway PGA jr. series

T.J. Smith edged Bill Green and Jack Connell in the 16-19 boys tour division at Hidden Trails Country Club in Dexter, Mo., last Wednesday in the second stop of the Gateway PGA Jr. Series.

Smith shot a 79, one stoke ahead of Green and three ahead of Connell.

The next event in the series will by played Thursday at the Sikeston Country Club.

Chance Holden won the boys 14-15 tour division, and Lindsay Riffle won the girls 16-18 tour division.

In the regular division, Eric Hayes (12-13), Carr Vernon (12-13), Brett Slaten (14-15), Blake Martindale (16-19) and Taylor Bond (16-19) won on the boys side. Kassie Walker won the 16-18 regular division on the girls side.

In the nine-hole boys division Zach Downing (10-11), Evan Deere (12-13) and Michael Weber (14-18) all won.

Dalhousie team wins St. Louis event

A four-person team led by Dalhousie general manager and golf pro Andy Deiro shot a 19-under-par 52 to win the 31-team Gateway PGA Pro-Ladies on Monday at Glen Echo Country Club in St. Louis.

Mary Jane Eftink, Sarah Cochrane and Deanna Estes joined Deiro on the team.

The Dalhousie team of Scott Roe, Ann Dombrowski, Robin Davis and Betty DeWitt finished at 10-under 61. The team of Jack Connell, Eileen Owens, Linda Tewis and Ernie Kidd finished with a 63.

SMSC to conduct tryouts in July

Southeast Missouri Soccer Club (SMSC) will hold select soccer tryouts for boys and girls teams U-9 to U-17 beginning July 8. Tryouts are on Field 12 at Shawnee Park in Cape Girardeau.
