Vernon shoots low round at Kennett
Carr Vernon shot an 83 to win the 12- and 13-year-old division at the Gateway PGA Junior Series with the low 18-hole round of the day Thursday at the Kennett Country Club.
Jonathan Rogers won the 16-19 tour division with an 84. Jack Connell Jr. was second with a 90, and Alex Reid shot 91.
Eric Hayes won the 14-15 tour division with an 85.
Emily Matthews was the lone player on the girls side and shot a 102.
Landon Barks won the 14-15 regular division with an 86, and Brett Martindale won the 16-19 regular division with an 89.
In nine-hole action, Gabe Wheeler won the 10-11 division with a 53; Gunnar Knudtson won the 12-13 division with a 44 and Myles Edwards won the 14-18 division with a 66.
Cape American Legionjunior team struggles
The Plaza Tire Cape Girardeau American Legion juior team recently dropped three of four games in a pair of midweek doubleheaders.
Cape dropped a district game to Dunklin County 12-4 at home Tuesday before taking the second, non-district game 10-4 to split the doubelheader.
Post 63 was swept in a road doubleheader on Wednesday by scores of 7-6 and 9-4 at Mayfield, Ky.
Blake Smith combined for four hits in the doubleheader sweep at Mayfield. Shawn Prince went 3-for-3 in the 7-6 loss.
Logan Gilmore had four RBIs in the 10-4 win over Dunklin County.
Burnett wins A flightfor Chip-A-Ways
Sissy Burnett topped the A flight Tuesday in Chip-A-Ways women's golf action at the Cape Jaycee Municipal Golf Course.
Doris Breymeyer and Bea Mashek tied atop the B flight.
Margie Kurre and Waunita Van Dyke tied atop the B flight.
Carolyn Blechle had the low putts.
Running group meets Wednesday nights
A Wednesday Night Run/Walk Group organized by Bryan Kelpe gathers to run and walk each Wednesday night from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
The group meets at the pavillion near the Rose Garden in Capaha Park.
