Ex-Southeast player_Warren to manage team
Former Southeast Missouri State baseball player Phil Warren recently was named the manager of the Gateway Grizzlies, an independent minor league baseball team in the St. Louis suburb of Sauget, Ill.
Warren, 28, played at Southeast from 1997 to 2000. He was the team's player personnel director this past season and is the organization's all-time hits leader. He played three years for the Grizzlies and parts of six years in the Frontier League before retiring after the 2005 season.
Warren replaces former St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Danny Cox.
"It has definitely been a goal of mine to manage," Warren said in a news release, "and there's no place I would rather start. I never anticipated that it would happen this fast."
