Notre Dame sophomore Logan Davis followed up his recently completed cross country season with a first-place finish Saturday in the Cairo Levee Footrace at St. Mary's Park in Cairo, Ill.

Davis, from Scott City, set a record for the 12- to 15-year-old age division with his time of 17 minutes, 7 seconds on the 5-kilometer course along the Mississippi River levee.

Also from the area, Delbert Marriott, a Sikeston resident who competes in local triathlons, won the 10-kilometer run in 36:50. Adela Sams of Cape Girardeau won the women's division and placed third overall in a time of 46:48.

Southeast alumscompete in triathlon

Kathy Frailing finished 575th and Missy Janzow was 910th in the Ford Ironman World Championship 70.3 on Saturday in Clearwater, Fla.

The event covered 70.3 miles with a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bicycle ride and a 13.1-mile half-marathon.

Frailing, a 1990 Southeast grad now living in Largo, Fla., completed the event in 4 hours, 45.35 minutes. She finished the swim in 30:57. the bike ride in 2:31:18 and the run in 1:38:18.

Janzow, a 1991 Southeast graduate now living in Victoria, Texas, finished in 5:07:47. She finished the swim in 37:51, completed the cycling portion in 2:36:56 and ran the half-marathon in 1:45:57.

Competitors were eligible for the event based on performances in qualifying events.

SEMO Fastpitch awardsFlanagan Scholarships

The SEMO Fastpitch Softball Association presented 13 scholarships to players from the association who entered college this fall.

Among those who received the scholarships from local schools were Perryville High School's Krista Meisner, who is atteding Lindenwood University; and Notre Dame's Eden Ellison, who is attending Union College.

The association's annual Cary Flanagan Memorial Fastpitch Tournament this summer attracted 21 teams. It raised funds for the scholarship fund set up in honor of Flanagan, the longtime ASA commissioner who died in an auto accident in February 2005.

The Express from Anna, Ill., won the 14-and-under division, the Express from Alto Pass, Ill., won the 16-and-under division, and the Heartland Pride Select team from Cape Girardeau won the 18-and-under division.
