Eastern Illinois captures OVC soccer tournament
Eastern Illinois won its fourth straight Ohio Valley Conference soccer tournament title Sunday, scoring two goals with under three minutes remaining to rally for a 3-2 victory over host and top seed Samford in the championship match.
The second-seeded Panthers (13-5-2) earned the league's automatic bid to the NCAA College Cup for the fourth consecutive year. They'll play nationally ranked Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., in the first round of NCAA Tournament Friday.
Chaos rules at local volleyball tournament
Chaos won the 17th annual Set & Spike Co-Ed Volleyball Tournament this past weekend in Cape Girardeau. The 14-team tournament consisted of round-robin play, followed by a single-elimination tournament.
The SEMO All-Stars placed second and the Dead Frogs took third.
Scorpions complete fall season with win
The Kohlfeld Scorpions rugby team finished he fall portion of its schedule with a 9-3 record following a 36-24 victory against the Hopkinsville, Ky., Headhunters.
The Scorpions, who won their third straight Missouri Division 2 title this fall, were led with scores by Alan Kloss, T.J. Ebner, Mark "Jocko" Lineberry and Scott Johnston. Kloss was the match MVP, while Andy Stover was selected defensive player of the game.
The Scorpions will have a fall awards and appreciation banquet on Thursday.
