Southeast Fall Coaches Clinic: Southeast Missouri State University's men's and women's basketball programs will host a coaches clinic 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Show Me Center. Southeast men's coach Gary Garner will instruct on the triple-post offense. Southeast women's coach B.J. Smith will instruct on the motion offense and how to build an offensive player. Other coaches also will instruct. Cost is $30.00 per coach, which includes lunch. Each coach will also receive a notebook and a gift for registration, and have the opportunity to win various door prizes, including a DVD player, shoes and a sweat suit. Jackson Optimist progam: The Jackson Optimist boys basketball program will begin its 55th year. Registration is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Main Street Fitness in Jackson. Program open to boys in grades 3 to 7. Forms also available to mail by Oct. 18 at the Chamber of Commerce, city and regional libraries and SEMO Specialties and Sports. Cape Optimist league: The Cape Girardeau Evening Optimist Church League Basketball program is enrolling teams in grades 2-12. A coaches meeting is set for 10:30 a.m. Oct. 16 at St. Andrews Activity Center. Info: 339-9223.
Men's league: The Perryville Parks and Recreation Department will offer a men's basketball league, beginning on Nov. 10. The league will play on Wednesday nights at the Perry Park Center. Youth league: The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department will offer a Girls Youth Basketball League for those in grades 3-12. Golf
Southeast Fall Clinic: Southeast Missouri State University's golf program, along with Arena Golf, will conduct its annual fall golf clinic in October and November. The clinic includes a variety of instruction along with video analysis of the golf swing. The class is limited to 15 people and costs $85. The class meets Oct. 13, 14, 20 and 21 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Parker Gym on the Southeast campus, and Nov. 9 and 10 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Arena Golf. Southeast booster tourney: The 15th annual Southeast Missouri Booster Club/River Eagle Distributing Golf Tournament is set for Oct. 29 at Bent Creek Country Club. The 18-hole, six-person scramble begins with a noon teeoff that follows lunch. Entry fee is $85 for an individual or $510 per team; the deadline is Oct. 18.
Benefit tournament: The Community Counseling Center Foundation's fifth annual Benefit Golf Tournament will be 12:30 p.m. Friday at Cape Girardeau Country Club. The event is an 18-hole, four-person shamble to benefit the Community Counseling Center, a not-for-profit provider of mental health care. Fee is $100 per player. CFS tournament: The inaugural CFS Golf Tournament, hosted by the Jackson Church of Christ, is scheduled for Saturday at Cape Jaycee Municipal Golf Course. Shotgun start at 9 a.m. for the four-person scramble. Fee is $65 per person and $260 per team.
Softball

Coed adult league: The Perryville Parks and Recreation Department will offer a coed adult volleyball league at the Perry Park Center. Coed tournament: The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department, along with Burger King and HealthPoint, will host the 17th annual Set and Spike Coed Volleyball Tournament on Nov. 7 at Osage Community Centre.
