Baseball
Fall baseball league: Registration for the Southeast Missouri Fall Basebal League will be 1 to 5 p.m. Aug. 14 and Aug. 15 at Westfield Shoppingtown West Park. The league is open to boys ages 8 to 18. Fees are $40 for the 8-9 and 10-11 divisions, $45 for the 12-14 age group and $55 for the 15-18 division. Games are played on weekends in Jackson and Chaffee. Football
Youth league registration: The JAYF youth football registrations wil be 8 a.m. to noon Aug. 14 and Aug. 21 at Jackson City Park pavilion No. 1. Levels are freshman tackle for students in grades 2-3; junior varsity for students in grades 4-5; and varsity for students in grades 6-7. Players need to be present. Flag football: The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department is accepting teams for its seventh annual Adult Flag Football League. Registration deadline is Sept. 10. Manager's meeting is 6:30 p.m. Sept. 8 at Osage Community Centre. League will begin Sept. 23 and include three divisions. Games will be played Thursday nights and Sunday afternoons at Arena Park. Season lasts seven or eight weeks and ends with Flag Bowl '04. Teams may consist of seven players. Cost is $189 per team. Info: Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department, 335-5421.
Golf
Benefit tournament: The Community Counseling Center Foundation's fifth annual Benefit Golf Tournament will be 12:30 p.m. Oct. 8 at Cape Girardeau Country Club. The event is an 18-hole, four-person shamble to benefit the Community Counseling Center, a not-for-profit provider of mental health care. Fee is $100 per player. Central: Practices begin Monday with times as follows: Football -- grades 10-12, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.; grade 9, 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Cross country (at the junior high) -- 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.; Softball -- 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Volleyball -- 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Tennis -- 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.; and Soccer -- grade 9, 6 a.m.; grade 11, 6:45 a.m.; grades 10 and 12, 7:30 a.m.

Southeast basketball/track barbecue: For the third year in a row, a barbecue to benefit the Southeast Missouri State University men's basketball and men's and women's track teams will take place 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day Aug. 19 to Aug. 21 outside Country Mart in Jackson. To avoid long lines, food can preordered by calling the basketball office at 651-5030 or Country Mart at 243-8171.
Running
Jackson Homecomer: The seventh annual Jackson Parks and Recreation Department's Jackson Homecomer 5-kilometer race is scheduled for 7 p.m. Aug. 17. Soccer
Southeast camps: The Southeast Missouri State University Soccer Camps include one more session, the CAYSA Soccer Camp presented by Southeast coaching staff (ages 5-11), Monday through Wednesday at Shawnee Park complex ($40). Info: Southeast coach Heather Nelson, 986-6013.
Referee class: The Cape Area Youth Soccer Association and the Jackson Optimist Soccer Association will sponsor a beginner referee instruction class for those 14 and older. Class fee is $20; registration for U.S. Soccer Federation (encouraged for those who pass) is an additional $25. Class will meet at the bowling alley, 538 W. Triathlon
Youth triathlon: The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department's 16th annual youth triathlon and half-mile run will be 9 a.m. Aug. 14 at Central Municipal Pool. The triathlon is open to children ages 9 to 18, with a kids run for ages 4 to 8. Triathlon includes 200-meter swim for the 9-12 division or 300 meters for 13-15 and 16-18 divisions followed by a two-mile bike race and one-mile run.
