Jackson camps: The Jackson Indian basketball camps will offer a pee-wee camp for grades 1-2 10 a.m.-noon Monday through July 2 at South Elementary; and a shooting camp for grades 4-7 9 a.m.-noon July 19-23 at the multipurpose gym. Info: Darrin Scott, 204-0171.
Ballhandling clinic: The Jackson Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring ballhandling clinics Monday (grades 6-8), Tuesday (grades 9-12) and Wednesday (grades 9-12) at the Jackson High School old gym. Sessions will be 10 a.m. to noon. Cost is $10 for grades 6-8 and $15 for grades 9-12.
Tigers basketball camp: Central High School will host several boys basketball camps in July for those entering grades 3-9 as well as a Little Dribblers camp for boys and girls entering grades 1-3. Central summer camps: Central High School will offer a team camp for athletes entering grades 9-12 on July 26-29, with 6-8 p.m. sessions at the high school ($10 fee). Tiger Football School, for athletes entering grades 5-8, will be Monday through July 1 with sessions 9-11 a.m. at the junior high practice field ($15 fee, registration on site upon arrival). Golf
Players pass: Cape Jaycee Municipal Golf Course is offering the Twenty Players Pass. The pass is $200 and covers 20 greens fees that can be used by any golfer at any time this year for up to 18 holes of play. Pass cannot be used for tournaments. Southeast summer camps: Southeast Missouri State University summer sports camps are ongoing, with coaches and athletes instructing. Some of the camps are for individuals and some are for teams. Most of the camps have sessions for grade school through high school age participants. Capaha Classic: The 17th annual Capaha Classic 5-kilometer run and children's one-mile run will be July 10 beginning at Capaha Park. The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department sponsors the event with Kidd's and Pepsi. Registration is 7-7:45 a.m. on race day. Challenger camp: The Challenger British Soccer Camp is scheduled for Monday through July 2 at Jackson City Park soccer field No. 1. The camp includes 1 1/2-hour sessions for novice players and three-hour sessions for recreational and competitive players. The staff also will offer a free coaching clinic for parents and coaches. Sand tournament: The third annual 4-on-4 Sand Blast Volleyball Tournament, presented by the Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department, will be July 25 at the Arena Park Sand Courts. The coed tournament has a $63 entry fee and requires each team to have at least one female player on the court at all times. Pool play will be followed by a single-elimination format.
