Several area softball players were picked for the all-region team, the first to be chosen by members of the SEMO Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association.

Five players were chosen for the first team and five for the second in each of four classes.

In Class 4, Central's playoff-qualifying season helped put seniors Megan McDonald and Shana Wadlington on the first team.

Other first-team selections included Notre Dame's Lindsay Reinagel and Alana Weismueller and Perryville's Kate Lowry in Class 3; Amanda Carron of St. Vincent, Michelle Collins of Kelly and Ashley Rocket of Kelly in Class 2; and Delta's Sarah Cook in Class 1.

Players were chosen from among the 77 high schools that make up the Southeast region of the Missouri Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association.

BOYS SOCCER

Central 9, Farmington 1

Host Farmington scored 20 seconds into the game, but it was all Central from there.

Heath Orr scored three goals for Central (21-0) with one apiece from Grant Hengst, Trey Willis and Seth Gerlach. Luke Kester, Robbie Petzoldt and Drew Crist scored their first goals of the season, and assists came from Hengst (3), Calen Wills, Dean Richardson, Brian Ross, Ryan Ponder, Jeff Beard and Aaron Bornstein. Central led 5-1 at intermission.

The Tigers' JV (15-2-2) won 10-1. Goals came from Lance Altenthal (3), Jared Thomas (2), Eddie Glenn (2), Tyson Whiteside, Thomas Keener and Bornstein with assists by Jordan Zaruba (3), Cole Crist (3), Trenton Beckham and Bornstein.
