Foursome puts in two holes in one
Gary Niswonger and Jim Kellett each had a hole in one Friday at Kimbeland Country Club in Jackson.
They were playing in the same foursome along with Merle Gelsheimer and Howard Kinder.
Niswonger, a Jackson resident, aced the 115-yard fourth hole from the white tees using an 8-iron.
Kellett, also a Jackson resident, aced the 140-yard sixh hole from the white tees using a 7-iron.
The holes in one were firsts for both golfers. Niswonger has been playing golf for more than 55 years, while Kellett has been playing for seven years.
The District 3 Cal Ripken Youth Baseball is taking place this weekend in Cape Girardeau at Arena Park Field No. 11.
The event began Friday evening, continues today and concludes Sunday.
Teams from Cape Girardeau, Jackson, Chaffee-Scott City and Scott County are participating. The district winner advances to the state tournament, which will be played in Kennett.
The team of Robyn Young and E.R. Fischer won the Cape Girardeau Country Club Twilight Golf scramble on Wednesday.
The team of Ben Rickard, Claudia Van Oostrom and Marsha Wagner placed second.
* In ladies day play this week at Cape Girardeau Country Club, Leslie Steele was the medalist.
The play of the day was low net.
Betty Michel placed first, while Catharine Weed, Shirley Talley and Steele tied for second.
