Shearon wins Trail of Tears Triathlon

Elliot Shearon of Cape Girardeau won the male division at the Coors Light Trail of Tears Triathlon on Saturday in 1 hour, 13 minutes, 3 seconds.

Shearon finished more than three minutes ahead of runner-up Taylor Vaughan (1:16:30), also of Cape Giraardeau. Gabe Runyon (1:19:28) of Ste. Genevieve, Mo., finished third.

Jennifer Meyer of St. Louis won the women's competition in 1:23:04. Roxanne Wegman (1:24:28) of Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., placed second, while Regina Kaplan-Rakowski (1:31:43) of Murphysboro, Tenn., was third.

The competition consisted of a 700-meter swim, 15-mile bike ride and 4-mile run.

Kelley claims senior title at Cape C.C.

Tim Kelley shot a two-round total of 150 to win the senior club championship at Cape Girardeau Country Club.

Al Spradling placed second at 157. Tom Hamilton finished third at 160, while Mike Edwards was fourth at 163.

Gary Lynch (net 147) won A flight, and Steve Slaten (157) finished atop B flight.

John Holcomb (net 60) won the super senior championship division. Jerry Brey (63) placed second, while Frank Bean (66) and Howard Dillard (66) tied for third.

Prince wins Thursday league title at Cape C.C.

David Prince won the championship of the Thursday night match-play league at Cape Girardeau Country Club.

Tyler Thrower came in second place, while John Brey finished third and Gunder Woldtvedt fourth.

Elfrink, Cook win SEMO horseshoe event

Tyler Elfrink and Lachelle Cook finished first out of 17 teams to win the recent SEMO Horeshoe Association event at the Oran Knights of Columbus.

John Keller and Carolyn Schreckenberg placed second, while Beaver Glastetter and Ron LeGrand finished third.

Jerome Backfisch and Randy Senciboy won first place at the 10-team event in Bell City.

Cleo Schaefer and Cook finished second, while Larry Glastetter and Diane Menz placed third.

Milde, Johnson, Fanger Boswell win scramble

The team of Mark Milde, David Johnson, Stephen Boswell and Adam Fanger claimed first place in the SEMO Dental Society four-man scramble at Dalhousie Golf Club.

The foursome shot 60 to finish three strokes ahead of the team of Ross Bennett, Nathan McGuire, Nathan Seyer and Matt Crumpley.

Mike Bennett, Jayne Scherrman, Ron Lessman and Mike York shot 65 to place third.

Pat Ruopp won the closest-to-pin competition, held on No. 5, while Ryan Swift claimed the longest drive. Ross Bennett had the longest putt.

Pavelonis, Nicholes, Burtis win Tartan Jug

The team of Brit Pavelonis, Eric Burtis and Robbie Nicholes shot 66 to win the pro-am division at the Tartan Jug competition at Dalhousie Golf Club.

The foursome posted a one-stroke victory in the best-ball format. Bob Gile, David Hohler and Todd Obergoenner finished one stroke behind in second. Chris Hall, Bobby Pavelonis and Charles Austin also shot 67 and placed third.

Ian Soutar, Dave Holland and Tom Viers won the amateur division with 61.

Closest-to-the-pin winners were Mike Kohlfeld (No. 5), Alice Temm (No. 8), Jeff Mauer (No. 11) and Ed Noffel (No. 13). The putting championship was won bby Harriette Myers, Alice Temm and Brevin Giebler.
