Gator members to swim in zone championship

Six members of the Gator swim team will travel to Indianapolis, Ind., for the Central Zone Championships which will begin Thursday.

Morgan Fraser, Kati Luehmann, Jennifer Willett, Emily Younghouse, Jameson Kuper and Steffan Troxel will make the trip for the Gators. Troxel, Younghouse and Kuper are coming off a successful trip to Oklahoma for the Central Sectional Championships. Troxel led the Gators with an eighth place finish in the 1,500 free and Kuper finished 12th in the 200 breast.

Vandalia GAF wins Kelso Klassic

Despite a rain delay opening night, the 19th annual Kelso Klassic fastpitch softball tournament concluded Sunday with a 7-4 Vandalia (Ill.) GAF win over Nokomis Bud Light.

Vandalia, who won the tournament for the first time, faced Nokomis twice Sunday. Vandalia beat Nokomis 5-1 in the winners bracket final, before facing them in the championship.

Alan Meinhart, the tournament's most valuable pitcher, picked up the win in the final. Rich Well provided the offense for Vandalia, going 2-for-3 with a home run and five RBIs. Well and teammate Greg Bellaver were named tournament co-MVP's.

The three Kelso teams did not fair well in the tournament. Kelso Fastpitch went 2-2, Kelso Connection was 1-2 as was Kelso Travelers.

Turner cards ace at Kimbeland

Travis Turner of Jackson recently recorded his first hole in one at Kimbeland Country Club.

Turner used a 9-iron to ace No. 18, a par 3 playing 156 yards.
